When you want your home to be cool or warm hvac maintenance servicesand comfortable, a system that isn't, working isn't just an inconvenience, it is a nuisance. Figuring out that your heating unit or your air conditioning unit aren't working, aren't what you want to discover on a 30 degree day in the winter, or a 100 degree day in the summer. Regular maintenance of both your heater and air conditioner can save you from a system that will eventually go out.  If your energy bills are creeping up, there is a possibility that your heating system or air conditioning system are working - simply not efficiently.

Think of your heating and air system like an engine in a car. Just like you would maintain your car with oil changes, tune ups and new tires, your HVAC systems need to have regular maintenance to make sure they keep running properly.

Heating and Air Maintenance

If you properly take care of your HVAC system, you can look forward to it enduring for up to 15 years, and much more than that in many cases. With proper maintenance, a new system should last 12-15 years, and can last much longer than that in some cases.  With central air and/or window units, it's not only important to have routine maintenance performed on them, but to also use other features that will help your A/C run even better. Below are some maintenance tips, followed by some suggestions that will keep your unit from working too hard.

The first thing is to make sure your unit is not leaking and is draining as it should. If too much water is allowed to remain in the system, or oppositely that too much is allowed to escape, then your air conditioner is not running as it should. Check hose connections for leaks or crack, and make sure the condensate tube is able to drain without impediment.

To save on running costs, set your air conditioner to average settings. Some people put the temperatures to extremes thinking it will cool/heat a room quicker. All this does is prevent the unit from cycling off which will ultimately cause your running costs to go through the roof.

Don't forget to change your filters every 4-6 weeks. If anyone in your family suffers from severe allergies, having a clean filter can be a significant help to them.
